The tournament has played a key part in the youth careers of many pro footballers including the likes of Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott (Fulham FC, 2017), Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga (Manchester Utd 2018) and Singapore’s own Danelle Tan and Erika Parkinson now playing for England u18’s.

After the inaugural edition in 2013, the JSSL Singapore Professional Academy 7s has grown considerably from just 40 teams in one venue to 550 teams across seven venues in its 11th year. Teams are divided into groups of seven/eight/nine teams, where all teams play each other once. Following that, the top four teams of the group will qualify for “Cup Knock Out”, while the remaining teams in the group will qualify for the “Plate Knock Out” stages. All matches are 25 minutes each with no half-time.

Besides players, coaches will also get the chance to be involved in the action and learn from the best in the industry at the JSSL Coaching Convention. Held in conjunction with the tournament, the conference will take place on April 16 at Holiday Inn Atrium Hotel. Guest-of-Honour and former Liverpool pro John Arne Riise will talk about his journey from Norway to Liverpool, with whom he won the Champions League title in 2005, and his coaching career at Norwegian top-flight women’s team Avaldsnes IL. World-class presentations will also be given by top representatives of Borussia Dortmund, Wycombe Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur on coaching, club management and player development.

In addition, this year will see the JSSL 7s games streamed live from all 27 pitches on the new JSSL 7s TV platform providing teams and supporters from all around the globe with the opportunity to catch all the action.
